5 top questions to ask a wedding photographer before hiring them

With the hundreds of wedding photographers out there it's hard to know which to choose.  After all, although someone who takes photos at their friends wedding and then says, "Hey I think I'll do this for a living" then advertises themselves as a professional surely isn't who you want to entrust the most important day of your life to...is it?

Below we've listed the top 5 questions to make sure you ask wedding photographers before you choose one:

  • What is your style?  This is an important questions mainly because there are so many different styles of photography.  If you're a fan of black and white photos and your photographer doesn't have the skills to do that then you won't be happy with the end results.
  • What is your back up plan?  Imagine for a moment that you get a phone call from your photographer the day before your wedding and they've fallen down the stairs causing a broken wrist..consequently not being able to shoot your wedding.   What's their back up plan?
  • How many weddings have you shot?  Remember the scenario in the first paragraph?  Do you want someone who just started and has no training shooting your special day?

  • Can I see your portfolio?  When you see the portfolio make sure that you also ask for photos from an entire wedding not just the great shots from several different weddings.  This will give you the opportunity to see what an entire wedding day "looked" like through the eyes of the photographer.

  • Do you have a contract with the shots and requirements outlined in detail?  This answer should be yes!  The reason is because without a contract you'll more than likely get what the photographer wants not what you want.

Ask the right questions and you'll get the right wedding photographer....for you!  For more information about what we do and how we can capture your special day please call us at (808) 329-7880.
